A cornucopia of cabaret, comedy and circus will descend south this December as Commedia dell Southbound takes to WA’s iconic camping festival Southbound.
Set in a big top and jam-packed full of hand-picked performers from Australia and abroad, the space has been carefully curated by JumpClimb, the creative team behind the likes of Noodle Palace, Midlandia and BeauVine Festival and renowned cabaret showman Tomás Ford.
A destination for all performers creative, comical and possibly a little crazy, nearly a dozen acts will be showcased over three days. Such acts include John Robertson (AUS/UK) who is set to bring the world’s first live action video game meets viral internet video The Dark Room. Now selling out massive shows around the UK, the former Perth standup returns to Southbound for the first time in a decade.
From subwoofer to subconscious – be part of a world first unique interactive clubbing experience, as international hypnotist (and former DJ) Matt Hale exploits the natural trance-inducing qualities of house music in Clubnosis. Hale, who sold out 35 shows during his recent Noodle Palace @ Fringe World run, uses hypnotic techniques to guide your imagination to the sonic soundscape of Bliss’ beautifully blended beats.
Having grown from a cult hit in Perth to a bona fide around the world sellout hit, Crap Music Rave Party is not only a night of raucous entertainment entwined with a scintillating celebration of all things shit, it’s quite frankly the party you never knew you wanted.
Grab your mates, think of a horrible song to request and hit the dance floor as Tomás Ford, self proclaimed worst DJ in the world, takes to the stage. Ford will be supported during his night of brilliantly awful music and much, much more, by his transvestite hype man Ayden Doherty who will also be hosting the inaugural Naked Race around the Commedia Dell Southbound tent.
Also for those looking to continue to belt out a tune is Rock And Roll Karaoke, hosted by legendary Perth MC and madman, Magnus Danger Magnus. A weekly institution in Perth, we’re talking some pretty notoriously wild and unhinged karaoke, with a selection of classic alternative music to choose from.
From one Perth institution to another, Bingay and Barbie-Q will be heading down, or should that be going down, to entertain the masses with an evening of bingo, balls, and more double entendres than you can poke your stick at.
With scintillating moves and a seductive air throw back to the dangerous dames of yesteryear Les Sataniques have risen from the depths of hell to unleash their unique style of performance. Join them for two thrilling nights of burlesque and gogo, and shake off your hangover with their early morning dance workshop.
A huge hit at Fringe World and Rottofest, Comedians vs Rappers is exactly what it sounds like. Half rap battle and half comedy roast, things will get properly scathing and hilarious onstage.
Clinically-depressed automaton and terrible comedian Mac The Comedy Computer thinks he is a comedian. He’s not. Bafflingly, audiences keep coming to see whatever latest meltdown Mac dishes up. It’s really messing with his sense of self.
For the musically inclined, vocal loop artist Sam Perry is back from a huge run of tours across Edinburgh Fringe Festival with touring show 360 Allstars – Urban Circus. Using only his voice, effect pedal and loop station Perry has captivated audiences all over the globe.
Commedia Dell Southbound isn’t just about the entertainment however, and will be dishing up – literally – an amazing array of eats and drinks, making it the perfect place to catch some respite from the summer sun.
